Another Second Sunday Sled Ride for the record books
When you looking at a map, it's often difficult to tell how a road might ride. In fact, I was pretty gosh darn sure that the 24 miles dead end to Hoopers Island was going to be bust. Suspending my disbelief, I was met with a nice causeway nestling me with water as far as the eye could see. And while the road appears quite straight on map, it is riddled with whacky turns. It's also a place that time has stood still. The mom and pop fishing/crabbing boats abound, and it's good the see the industry has survived yet another decade under the crushing pressures of Greenpeace.
As the year comes nearly to a close, I try to think of my "favorite" ride from the series. I really thought that the ride from last month might have been it. However, now I am not sure. Every ride has something unique to display, if you can just ride your ride. While Blackwater Wildlife Refuge is tough to get to, the scenery is so very different from the rest of Maryland. It's like you took a day ride to Florida.
I also want to give big kudos to our Ride Master, Lakota. The track was fun, and I was really appreciative to lollygag in the middle somewhere. It's not often that I get to see the Americana when I am leading. I've been plotting that I might torture Blaster when he is back riding in a few weeks, and make him ride all the SSSRs he missed There were quite a few things that I would have stopped to photograph, for no other reason than the shutterbug in me thought it would be nice. I think we have 2 photos from the entire day. I would ordinarily blame RFlagg, but somehow he out shot me today.
